BAFFLE - News and Events

Poetry on Ice

An impromptu and historical BAFFLE event took place on 10th January when a poetry reading took place on Loughrea's frozen lake. Hot punch, bottles of whiskey and poitín helped to keep the group warm. Joe Conmy having organised the event from the outset took on the onerous role of emcee for the afternoon. There were readings of poems by Roald Dahl and Robert Frost but most of the contributions were BAFFLE originals. Among those reading were Joe Conmy, Fergus Kennedy, Joe Kelly, Sean Gately, Johnny Kelly, Anne Marie Kennedy, Sean Connaire, James Kennedy, Tony Callanan, Ian McDonald and Joe Kennedy with Eamonn McNally establishing a world first for reading his poem on one of the lake's crannogs.

There was some worry about the ice cracking under the weight, but as one spectator mentioned, ' the only thing cracked around here is BAFFLE' and maybe she was right.
