BAFFLE - News and Events

BAFFLE show True Colours

A large audience attended Cheever’s pub in Craughwell on 29th July for BAFFLE’s Race Week reading, themed ‘True Colours’. They had much to admire with 28 poets taking part with readings in English, Polish agus as Gaeilge. There was plenty of other entertainment on offer as well.

The winner of the main event, the poetry prize, was Noelle Lynskey with her tale of friendship entitled “Brown Coats”. Second prize went to Martin McDonnell’s unique and witty “An Abstract Thing” with Claire Long’s searching “Facade” taking third prize.

Awaited with almost equal attention were the fashion prizes. The best filly was won by Ann Greene from Craughwell. Best turned out pair was awarded to Ian and Siún McDonald and the prize for the best hat went to Margarita Wargola, who also recited her poem in English and her native Polish.

Those who wrote and receited poems were: Joe Kennedy, Diana Dennis, Mike Coy, Geraldine Cregg, Claire long, Breid Sibley, Martin McDonnell, Léinn ní Chlerigh, James Kennedy, Eamonn McNally, Anne Marie Kennedy, Miceál Kearney, Méabh McDonnell, Ian McDonald, Stephen Shields, Mary Ida Kelly, Johnny B Broderick, Siún McDonald, Robbie Gallagher, Joe Kelly, Vicky McNally, Kathleen Cahill, Margerita Wargola, Noelle Lynskey, Pat Lawless, Ray Gately, Joe Conmy, Michael O’Rourke.

The night was compered by Anne Marie Kennedy who thanked those who took part and all who attended. She also thanked Cheevers pub who provided the finger food. . Prizes were sponsored and presented by Rena Matthews. A capella singers, The Keynotes, provided the musical entertainment during the night.

We all look forward to next year’s ‘Not at the races’ event.
