BAFFLE - News and Events

Reading 13th March 2009

BAFFLE held their first competition of the year on Friday the 13th in O’Dea’s Hotel. A strong attendance were royally entertained by the usual BAFFLE mix of humour, devilment and, on occasion, sentiment, throughout the evening. Stephen Shields was the very capable emcee for the night amusing the audience with a selection of appropriate jokes between readings. Neev (orse. Niamh Kennedy) provided fantastic musical interludes during the evening treating us all to her hit song ‘Gullible’.

Having pronounced himself well pleased with his return visit to BAFFLE, the adjudicator, Louis de Paor chose Michael Kearney with his poem ‘A Sour Note’ as the winner of the evening’s contest. In second place was BAFFLE veteran, Eamonn McNally with ‘Did I get that right’, and Margaret Hickey was a popular third with her poem ‘The Arithmetic of Love’. The other readers were: Wiltrud Duell, Marie Barrett, James Kennedy, Marguerite Brady, Joe Conmy, Eileen Smith, Ian McDonald, Mary Ida Kelly, Joe Kennedy, Pat Lawless, Mary Rourke and Johnny Kelly.
