BAFFLE - News and Events

The year to date

Events commenced in March when BAFFLE was represented at Feile Rafteiri on 28th March. This was an excellent night of Irish Poetry and Music. As usual it was organised by our member Padraig O’Baoill who is the driving force behind Gaeilge Locha Riach.

The following month on 9th April a great night was had in Amigo’s Restaurant when more than 30 members and supporters sat down to a great meal. As the vino was downed and tongues were loosened the stories and poetry flowed.

Strokestown was the next outing on 30th April and BAFFLE was represented this time by Peter Goulding and Ian McDonald who had both reached the finals of the Percy French competition. Ian was cheered on to a notable second by a flock of BAFFLE supporters who were in attendance. Ian was subsequently invited to read his poem, The Namasutra, live on Shannonside radio.

Then there was ‘The Poets Picnic’ on 16th May. Hosted by long-time members Wiltrud and Roman in there wonderful house and grounds near Woodford. This was a great event with food and wine in abundance where Bafflers, Maplers and an assortment of other poets read sitting on the lawn and afterwards, as the evening drew to a close, in their huge conservatory.

During all these happenings we had one Baffler who went international. He was interviewed and read some of his poetry in ‘The Irish Show’ on Radio Montreal. Eamonn McNally is now legend in Canada!
